Catch MediaCrossing CEO Michael Kalman Interview In Inc Magazine

April 13, 2020 by MediaCrossing Team

Finding ways to capture the in-office magic online during the COVID-19 crisis.

This past week, Michael Kalman, Founder & CEO of MediaCrossing, was interviewed by Inc Magazine to discuss the challenges of leading a team in a remote world. Michael talked about how he’s finding new ways to encourage collaboration and to capture the “in-office magic” online.

With $17M in annual billing and 454% growth over the past three years, MediaCrossing has earned a place on the Inc 5000 list for two consecutive years. And what Michael knows is that the key driver of that growth has undoubtedly been team collaboration.

The circumstances for MediaCrossing are interesting - the team certainly can work remotely and can accomplish all of the normal, day-to-day tasks from home; but for a 23-person team that’s used to spontaneously walking over to a colleague’s work space - or even scheduling a kitchen run-in to quickly chat about a client question - the dynamic of a remote world has naturally formed barriers to collaborating that are tough to break down.

For MediaCrossing, Michael’s decision to purchase Zoom accounts has been a game changer. “Zoom allows you to inject a certain energy that a simple phone call just doesn’t lend itself to,” Michael says. “And during these tough times, leading with positive, strong energy is key for inspiring the team.” Besides conducting almost all meetings over Zoom, the MediaCrossing team has also scheduled virtual happy hours, game nights and other fun meet-ups to stay connected… and of course, to just have fun together.

The other game changer for MediaCrossing has been Michael’s effort to bring new teams of people together to tackle projects. “In certain ways our team is actually more connected than ever,” says Michael. “Many of us have had to step up the plate and take on new roles to meet the business’s needs during this unique time, and this has resulted in new teams of people working with one another. These people are truly rallying and learning how to accomplish new tasks together - as a team - to keep our business going. It is that MX magic that has fueled our company from day one and that will allow us to come out of this crisis even stronger, and more tight-knit than ever.”
